ABATE OF OHIO, INC., REGION 1
Well ABATERS,

That’s about all I feel is well. I’m five days late on getting this letter to De` and still all I can come up with is ‘Well’.

We had nineteen people at our last meeting. I thought with a new location, a new place to grab something to eat, a new place to have your favorite beverage, that the turnout might have been a little better. It must be the word ELECTION, or maybe NOMINATION or maybe your favorite team was playing. I don’t know.
Anyhow, our next meeting will be held at the Opera House in Jewett, Ohio on Nov 16th at 1:00p.m. We still have almost all positions OPEN and that meeting will be the LAST Round of Nominations. We still need Representation in Harrison, Carroll, Belmont and Monroe Counties. Also we need a Secretary, Public Relations, Deputy Director and Trustees in each county. This is very disheartening to me to see this much lack of participation from the membership of what I think used to be the best region in the state. It took us a long time to become noticed on the State level and to see it all possibly come to an end is just ….. well, I don’t have the words. There was nobody at the meeting in their twenties, I had to look real hard to find someone in the thirties there, so that made the rest of us that were there in our forties and fifties. I really find it hard to believe that our young ABATERs are just willing to accept the fact that Big Brother will tell us that we will have to wear a helmet, let just the dealerships work on our bikes, and that we will not be able to customize our bikes the way we want to. This is to just name a few of the things that will change. And believe me, if a helmet law becomes law again, that we will never repeal it again. We need NEW BLOOD, New IDEAS, New ENTHUSIASM. I have said this before, that the old dogs are getting tired. I can’t believe that we can’t get about 30 people to give up a little bit of your time to help protect one of the most precious things to us (give ya a hint : MOTORCYCLING) as we know it today. We are one of the last Freedom Rights Organizations left. And it could all be gone very soon. BUT as soon as a helmet law goes into effect the meetings will probably be full of people to try to point the finger on whose fault it is. Nobody’s fault but your own, cause you either didn’t get involved or you just didn’t think it would happen.
Ask yourself what you can do? Maybe you might think it is time to become an Officer of ABATE of Ohio, Inc., Region One. And for those of you that think, or those of you that have friends that think that Region One is a ‘Click’, well now could be the time to change things. It’s so easy to say this and that, instead of trying to get physically involved to try to change things. TALK IS CHEAP. We NEED bodies folks. We NEED Commitment. We NEED Dedication. And whoever gets in there and represents us, we NEED to Back them. After all we are all just volunteers and are trying to do our best. Think about it SERIOUSLY!
Okay, those of you that are having problems with your memberships, not receiving your Outspokin or your Newsletter, or if you know of somebody having this problem, Please call the State Office at 1-800-25-BIKER and you problem will be taken care of. Especially if your membership expired between April and August. By calling the State Office it should be resolved.
Our Christmas Party will be held on the first Saturday of December. That is December 6th at the Cross Creek Saloon in Goulds, Ohio, just outside of Mingo Junction, Ohio. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Food from 7:00 p.m. Please read your flyer and plan on attending.
Don’t forget, if you think you can make a difference, or you just want to become a soldier to help fight people who think they know what is best for us and we are just supposed to go along with then without an argument, then come out to Jewett, Oh., on November 16th and it be know that you want to become one of the dedicated few. I certainly will appreciate it. Thankyou for reading my letter.

RIDE SAFE,
Kenny

p.s. And if you haven’t heard yet, there will be NO Swap Meet this year in Wintersville, Ohio due to the lack of volunteers. F.Y.I.
Also as a special promotion for ABATE, Hairy George, Executive Director for ABATE of Ohio, Inc., has accepted an invitation from me to come to the Nov 16thy meeting in Jewett, Oh., to speak to us all and let us know where ABATE of Ohio, Inc., is headed and what we can expect in the future. Show how your respect by coming to the meeting and hear what he has to say.
